Scheduling Inspections for Vacant Section 8 Units
Scheduling an inspection for a vacant Section 8 unit involves 3 main steps and one optional step:
ü
Set up inspection criteria. |
ü
Enter vacant unit information. |
ü
Optional step: add vacant unit into Rent Reasonableness. |
ü
Add/Schedule the inspection. |
Access Section 8 Desktop Inspections
1.
From the Main Menu screen, click SCHEDULE. The Schedule Inspection screen appears. |
Set Up Inspection Criteria
2.
In the middle of the screen, specify the schedule date and time for the inspection. |
3.
Select a protocol, and “initial” as the inspection type from the drop-down lists. If necessary, change the inspector, but the default inspector is the inspector who is currently logged on and scheduling the inspection. |
Note: The typical inspection type for Section 8 is “initial.” Also, an “initial” inspection type is the only type of inspection that will change the Last Inspection Date in the Occupancy and Rent Calculation program!
Enter Vacant Unit Info
4.
Click to add the vacant unit inspection. The Vacant Unit Information screen opens. |
5.
Click GET UNIT; the Browse Housing Units screen appears. Search for the unit to be inspected and highlight the unit in the table. Click SELECT; the Vacant Unit Information screen appears again with the selected unit’s information displayed. |
6.
If the information is available, enter the first name, last name, and phone number of the unit’s potential tenant. This allows the inspector to communicate any important information about the unit to the future tenant. |
Schedule!
7.
Click OK when all pertinent unit information has been entered. The Schedule Inspection screen appears. The vacant unit inspection is displayed in the scheduled inspections table at the bottom of the screen, and, in the case of a vacant unit inspection without a potential tenant, the tenant name will be listed as “Vacant Unit.” |
More on Searching...
- For searches, select how you would like to order a table from the ordered by drop-down list. (For units, you are able to order your search by owner, street name, bedrooms, address, zip, etc.)
- Type your search criteria into the search for field and click GO. The table will sort accordingly. (For example, if you select to order by owner and search for “AL,” the table sorts with all owners with “AL” in their names placed at the top.)
